The inventor of the cell phone was Martin Cooper, an researcher and executive at Motorola. He successfully made the first call using a hand held phone , now known as a cell phone on April 3rd 1973, The person whom he called was no randomer, it was his own rival Dr. Joel S. Engel, a researcher at Bell Labs. The constant race between the two rivals made this innovation to come this early, back in the days. Of course, the hand held phones back then were not as delightfull as they are now, heavily weighting and big sizes was a big burden for any user. In time the sizes and the weight of the cell phones, decreased considerably up to a feather like object with the help of new technology and being able to pack an increasingly number of transistors on a smaller and smaller integrated chip. Along with this new innovation a new secondary market beginned also. Embedded gadgets for the phones added the spicy looks and increased their capabilities and features, being able to perform as a video/photo camera also or radio and even as a gaming platform, increasing its popularity amongst teenagers.

For the constant busy man the arrival of this device was a blessing and came at the right time. The market for this luxury item at beginning had well over 12 millions clients in 1990, by the end of 2009 the number of subscriptions went to a staggering 4.5 billion, thats 300 times the number back then.

The first 1G commercially automated cellular network generation was lunched in Japan by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation or NTT in 1979, initially only covering only the metropolitan area of Tokyo, 5 years later NTT expanded the network to cover the entire population becoming the first 1G nation network. The first modern 2G technology network appeared in Finland in 1991 and it was lunched by Radiolinja now part of Elisa Group. The third generation or 3G was again lunched in Japan. The profits from this new technology were exceeding billions of dollars, thus making the number of people investing in it to increase at a fast rate. The constant pump of money in researching, in the technology of manufacturing mobile phones, leaded to its big success and helped this once luxury item now common one, to become popular amongst us. With no doubt the inventors of the cell phone had one of the biggest impact in our modern day society, allowing us to communicate with each other faster then any other technology. If there is any item out there that most of us could not perform our daily tasks, we could easily say that its the cell phone, picturing a world without this piece of technology is harder then anyone could believe.
