Microsoft has found a legitimate lever that can grow their business and will use it to do exactly that. Anyone else would have done that exactly the same if it were the case. I am really curious what this smartphone race will offer because I need the best hardware ( in terms of design and performance) running on Windows Phone and I have none found yet. I have all the patience a usual customer has and even if I anticipate the launch of many devices that will fit those requirements, there is still to early to say that the best one has been launched. After 1 year since its launch, Windows Phone was already a stable operating system, a complex platform with more that 35,000 available applications in the official store.

It can’t be claimed in the present under no circumstances that the operating system can not compete with Android or iOS in terms of features and level of complexity. As it is already known, Windows Phone 7.5 ( codename Mango ) is able to compete almost equally with the IOS and Android based operating system. From my point of view the lack of hardware combined with the very low involvement of stakeholders ( at least in many third world countries ) in promoting sales of such platforms resulted in weak if even nonexistent market segment for Windows Phone based technologies. But things start to change. Already the first signs of powerful marketing actions can be seen: large banners on buildings in France and UK, video presentations etc. Windows Phone is in desperate need of a device the size of Samsung Galaxy SII or Desire that can compete with the iPhone in the conception of the buyers.

Because users will not primarily buy a smartphone for a useful operating system and applications: the hardware that they want has to be able to make them proud of. And I would say that buying a smartphone is a decision based on the hardware as well as the operating system and available applications, not vice versa. Steve Ballmer said at Web 2.0 Summit that in the near future the market trend will follow a wave of interesting releases and I'm curious to see what Nokia has to say as well as Samsung, LG and HTC. And it would be something that Microsoft could launch and integrate: Skype. Month’s purchase is the Skype purchase by the massive Microsoft.
