What is a smartphone? It might be the question most of you ask, because if not, you wouldn’t have checked to see the answer. A smartphone is first of all a mobile phone, it does the basics, such as calling and texting, but it takes things at the next level. A “smart” phone has advanced capabilities, in most cases presents itself with a touch screen and instead of basic calling, you can video call, if that respective phone has a front-facing camera, 3G and so. What is more, on such a device, you can browse the internet, you can get updates and check your e-mails, you can manage Microsoft documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), PDF documents, picture files and more.
With their advanced camera and multimedia capabilities, a smartphone has a very good camera that sometimes even replace the digital camera you have at home; has flash, auto-focus, editing options and you can upload the pictures you took on the internet using some applications. The games you have by default are not the basic ones, because some have 3D graphics, you can play racing games, interactive and you can go online and challenge your friends. And if you are like in a mood for watching a movie and you don’t feel like grabbing your laptop when you are on a trip, train and so, you can have videos and movies right in your phone. If you have internet access, even access to YouTube is possible, so without doubts, you will surely exceed the limits. You have heard of operating systems, as you have on your computer, Windows, Linux or Mac, but smartphones come with operating systems as well. This allows you to run applications, provides interface, certain web browsers and pre-defined icons. Most smartphones these days run on Apple, like the iPhone has iOS, BlackBerry runs on BlackBerry OS, Google has its Android (which at this moment is one of the most powerful and the most used one) and Microsoft phones run on Windows.

Most users pick to have a smartphone also because the availability of applications. The mentioned operating systems have websites from where users can download applications, games, utility and productivity software, themes and more. Depending on the memory you have inside your device, you can save the compatible software with your phone. As web browsers are strong features, you can enter directly from your phone and start downloading without waiting for the computer transfer. And talking about internet, wireless connectivity is enabled on these smart gadgets. Wherever there is a hot-spot, users can connect to the internet and browse freely on websites, check e-mails, watch online videos, access social networks and more. The same goes with the GPS, if you have it, then you can turn your phone into a navigation system.

A smartphone goes beyond sending text messages, because you can manage e-mails, you can attach documents, pictures and send them to your friends. Also, you can receive e-mails with attachments and open them on your device. And finally, a smartphone includes most of the time, a QWERTY keyboard, a sliding one, or the one on-screen. You can use your fingers or a stylus to type messages, to enter web pages, to post comments online and more. This is what a smartphone can do, and hold on because 3D phones are on the market, with their 3D capabilities, you can watch 3D content and take 3D pictures, so technology will never seize to amaze us.
